Members from Young Greens and Ukip’s youth wing Young Independence (YI) faced off over the issues affecting young voters.
Green Party member and post-graduate Leigh Baker, 21, and Ukip’s YI Dorset Chairman Zac Stanworth,19, debated whether 16-year-olds should get the vote, what to do about university tuition fees and the cost of living crisis, as well as the unavoidable topic of immigration.
A recent Demos report found the cost of living was the biggest issue motivating 18 to 25s to vote in May, with 69% saying it was the most important issue affecting young voters. Less than half of 18 to 25s voted in the 2010 UK general election.
