For Ukip it has so far been a victorious journey. At every stage Farage’s anti-EU tank has blasted the predictions of the political correspondents and experts.

They are still around and more popular than ever. In fact, their poll performances have continued to get better and better, barring a few minor blips from those inside the party who have not quite managed to get their head around being in the public eye.

Latest polling has them as the third favourite political party on 12%. At this point five years ago (with five months to go till the election) Nick Clegg’s Lib Dems were also occupying third, but had around an extra five points in the bag, depending on which polls you believe.

A quick poll I conducted showed all of those who had previously voted for Ukip, whether in the EU, local or prior elections plan to vote the same way in the next general election, as well as a couple of Tory and Labour voters.

At first Farage was just the ring leader for a group of loonies, fruitcakes and closet racists spouting their immigrant-bashing bile. Apparently the general public have a taste for Farage fruitcakes.

Simply a protest vote. 139 new UKIP councillors elected in the 2013 local elections.

Godfrey Bloom tries his best to implode the party through his numerous offensive comments. Highest number of votes of any UK party in the 2014 EU elections.

In May 2015…
